tune for tuesday // wild belle
Thanks to Coachella, there is a plethora of amazing concerts in California this week. In fact, today we are driving down to Big Sur to see Grizzly Bear at the Henry Miller Memorial Library. To say I am excited would be the understatement of the century.
And just a few days ago, we had the pleasure of seeing Wild Belle and Yeasayer at Mezzanine (see above).
Today's tune is in honor of that show. While I have seen Yeasayer four (!) times before, this was my first time seeing Wild Belle, who just so happens to be from Chicago. Yeasayer gives one hell of a live performance (the best, actually) and Wild Belle is pretty high up there too. We had a fantastic time - especially me, as I have a special place in my heart for music with even the slightest hint of reggae influence.
Enjoy.

so many books, so little time
This post is a bit overdue, but last weekend was the San Francisco Public Library Book Sale at Fort Mason....
aka HEAVEN.
Sure, it was disorganized and chaotic and overwhelming and 100% un-alphabetized, but it was wonderful nonetheless. Especially if you were on the hunt for a copy of Marley & Me, Memoirs of a Geisha, or The Help. Then it would have been a quick trip for you, that's for sure.
For me, it took about three hours to go through every single table. But it was totally worth it! I filled two tote bags for only $25. Best of all, I scored three titles from my wishlist and a pristine copy of The Art of Fielding, which I have been dying to read for ages (and have been too stubborn to just buy).
It was a very, very good day.

springtime
Spring is officially here!
I would be really excited about this, but I have a confession to make... I loathe spring. I really do. Where others see hope, renewal, and rebirth, I see dirty puddles and allergies and pastel everything (yuck!). I know I am in the minority here, but spring is my least favorite season.
Spring's only redeeming quality, in my opinion, is the sudden abundance of flowers. I wasn't sure what to expect in this city that is devoid of any real seasonal transitions, but I am thrilled to report that flowers are blossoming everywhere right now! I mean, the leaves don't change color in the fall, but cherry blossoms and tulips bloom in April? I don't understand it, but I'll take it.
Who knew this city could be even prettier. Plus, thanks to the awesome flower vendor at our local farmers' market, I currently have three vases of white tulips in the apartment. It's like Holland up in here.
Ok, so maybe spring isn't all that bad.

tune for tuesday // dan croll
My entire life could be described as a series of obsessions. Be it a band, an item of clothing, a book, a historical era, a food, a color, whatever. I become so focused on one thing, I live it and breathe it. Until the next thing comes along...
Mostly though, I am obsessed with songs. Sometimes a whole album will creep in there, but it's usually just a song. A song that plays on repeat until I know every single measure, word, beat, riff by heart. It drives my husband crazy! The question, "really, that one again?" is heard often in our home :)
I thought maybe I would share these musical obsessions in a new series I'm calling "tune for tuesday." Creative, I know.
Here's my pick for this week. (Best played at maximum volume.)
I think it's especially wonderful because you can dance to it.
P.S. Happy Birthday Marmee!

miss catherine
Ok, so technically she has been Mrs. Catherine for a few years now, but I've called her 'miss' since high school and well, it's my blog and I'll do what I want. Call it artistic license, if you like :)
After living in different states for the majority of the last 10 years, I'm beyond thrilled that Catherine and I have been reunited in the Bay Area, if ever so briefly. I sure will miss our weekly jaunts to the Mission for heavenly croissants at Tartine Bakery and decadent chocolate everything at Dandelion when she moves back to Wisconsin this summer.
